A month of inspiration

As Pablo Picasso would say, this spring has surprised us with new projects and loads of inspiration. We have been showered with motivation, positive thinking and solidarity, with wonderful (and useful) initiatives such as “Somos así”. We have collaborated in the launch of a university in Chile talking about creativity. We have drawn a world map of future ideas, from Mallorca to Asia… And, although it may sound strange, after all these ‘creative journeys’, we have come down from the clouds and have gone for a walk around the net. Here are our highlighted tweets of the month!

Interview in Artravel – France – May 2012

Prestigious French design magazine Artravel has just released its lastest issue with an extensive 9-page interview to Susanna Cots. Under the title “Le design de l’emotion”, the magazine features Susanna Cots’ latest interior design projects.

“Le blanc est son langage. Un point d’ancrage. Ses intérieurs contemporains, presque minimalistes, épousent des lignes pures. La jeune architecte d’intérieur espagnole Susanna Cots conçoit des espaces sensibles, lumineux, confortables, mâtinés de « slow design ». Pour atteindre la perfection : le « Home Sweet Home » qui engendre l’émotion.

Suggestions for decorating a space in B&W

1-If you wish to decorate or redesign a room in black and white colours, aim for the balance among shapes, textures and atrezzo.

2- If the idea is to paint a wall black, I suggest using a white decapé bureau for a dramatic effect and to avoid the wall getting dirty, as black is a very delicate colour. Nevertheless, it is not advisable to use black walls in spaces where there are children (unless it is chalkboard paint).

Put a real plant on top of the bureau, preferably in green and white: orchids are a great option or also, one of spring’s loveliest flowers, a branch of almond blossom.

3- Another useful trick that adds personality to any space is hanging a collage of paintings, photographs and sketches framed in black in different shapes and thickness.

4- If you wish to achieve contrast in black and white spaces, I suggest combining other materials or colours such as metallic or the natural wood of your choice, in my case I prefer oak. Try not to use strong accent colours such as red or orange, as it will minimize both the aimed contrast and visual comfort.

5- When decorating a space in white, visualize it as a huge container and apply black touches. If you are aiming for a high contrast decoration always think in terms of balance. And remember that “less is more”.

Decoration suggestions in Cosmopolitan magazine – May 2012

This May our studio has collaborated with Cosmopolitan magazine. For their May issue, we have shared some suggestions in their “Interior decoration” section. The feature was focused on how to design a room in black and white. According to Susanna Cots, a good way of creating an attractive and mild contrast is through the blend of wood and metallic colours.
